This helmet is in the motif of Naga kuwa gata (long spade shape), which it is said that Minamoto no Yoshiie (a Minamoto clan samurai of the late Heian period) wore. This helmet is a kind of Hoshi kabuto (star helmet). It has golden shooting star patterns on its backward and forward. At Itsukushima Shrine in Hiroshima, there is a Set of the armor of Yoshiie Minamoto which is glued buckskin on Fukikaeshi and Mabisashi parts.
There are so many patterns of Odoshi design on the armor and helmets of
the Kamakura era as if Samurais in those days competed their fashion sense.
This one has patterns that remind the hem of Kimono on the red backgrounds.
