As hina dolls are meant for young girls, in the same way, helmets (or in Japanese, "kabuto") like those shown here are given to newly born Japanese boys. Families with boys often display warrior dolls and miniature armor in their homes to protect from evil and to promote the happiness and well-being of their boys. Icchu's war helmets and armor are made for decoration but are in fact quite realistically constructed.
